A Midlothian postcode is one of the most highly populated areas in the UK without a cashpoint or Post Office, according to new analysis from Which? and reported in Midlothian View earlier today.

The EH18 postcode, that includes Polton and Lasswade, has a population of 2,233.

Commenting on the findings, SNP candidate for Midlothian, Owen Thompson said:

“Over the last few years our major banks have shown a total disregard for their customers in Midlothian.

“It’s a real eye opener to see that Polton and Lasswade has the second largest population in the UK without a cashline or a Post Office. For me it hits home the fact that all too often, the Midlothian is an afterthought for these companies.

“This isn’t a remote area – local residents expect access to basic services like a cashline. It’s time for banks to up their game, and if elected as the MP for Midlothian next month, I’ll fight to resolve this issue for good.”

Owen said he would achieve this by

“Bringing all the right people together – banks, post offices, communities and organisations like the FSB – will be crucial to create a financial infrastructure that is both right for our communities and commercially viable for businesses.”
