A sporting event in Selkirk which attracted more than 300 competitors over the weekend provided the region’s economy with a much-needed shot in the arm.
The town played host to the second event in the Borders Triathon Series, organised by Live Borders on Saturday and Sunday.
With dry, sunny skies and perfect racing conditions entrants from Glasgow, Montrose and Durham were among those taking part in the action-packed two days.
This year’s Selkirk Triathlon introduced a number of exciting new features.
Saturday morning saw the debut of the Sprint Distance Triathlon, alongside the first-ever Aqua Bike and Aqua Run events.
In the afternoon, the much-loved youth races returned, giving competitors aged 8–16 years the chance to experience multi-sport racing in a fun and supportive environment.
Sunday was headlined by the Standard Distance Triathlon, followed by a family-friendly participation race in the afternoon, which welcomed newcomers and families into the sport.
Live Borders board member and Selkirk councillor Caroline Cochrane was among those who volunteered across the weekend.
She said: “It was a great privilege to help at this event and to see so many people coming to Selkirk and enjoying such a well-run competition. It’s wonderful to see our local facilities used in such a positive way.
“Local events like this are vital—not only for sport, but for community spirit and the wider Borders economy.”
The organisers emphasised that the weekend would not have been possible without the dedication of volunteers, whose enthusiasm and support ensured the success of the event.
