Selkirk Swimming Pool
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
A plea has been issued for townsfolk to step forward to save Selkirk Swimming Pool and other town leisure venues.
There was relief last month when it was revealed that communities across the Borders would be given time to find alternatives to the closure of facilities as part of Live Borders cost-cutting measures.
One of the venues given a reprieve was Selkirk Swimming Pool.
But the town’s pool, fitness centre and caravan park are still at risk of closure unless the community comes together to protect them.
A steering group is being formed to explore ways to save, protect and enhance these key assets, and local voices, skills and ideas are needed to move this forward.
A group spokesperson said: “These facilities are vital to our town’s well-being, fitness, tourism and families, we cannot afford to lose them.
“Whatever you can offer time, experience, suggestions or simply enthusiasm, it all counts.”
If you are interested in getting involved send us your contact details to Email: SelkirkVPAG@gmail.com
Alternatively, you can contact Joyce Wright on 07947 781 675 or Caroline Cochrane on 07979 334 700 before December 31.
The spokesperson added: “Let’s work together to ensure our pool, fitness centre and caravan park remain at the heart of Selkirk for generations to come.”
