Thank you to the 13,259 people who put their trust in me and Scottish Labour on Thursday 6th May. While I am disappointed by the result, I am proud of our positive campaign and the effort by our team. We campaigned tirelessly under difficult circumstances to win this election. I would like to thank the residents of Midlothian North and Musselburgh for the respectful way they engaged with us whilst on the campaign trail. I’ve received lots of kind messages both from people who supported me and from people who supported other parties. It would have been such a privilege to represent our citizens at Holyrood.

We did add more than 3,300 votes to those won in 2016. We also increased our percentage share of the vote by more than three times as much as the SNP, both of which are positive.

Congratulations to Colin Beattie. I will work positively to ensure he delivers on his commitments to our communities. None of those commitments are more urgent than the ongoing problems at Riverside Medical Practice, and I urge him to quickly find a solution for their 20,000 patients.

For me, my work as a Midlothian Councillor will continue. My constituents and our communities will always come first. Thank you and stay safe.
