The Scottish Open starts on Thursday at the Renaissance club in East Lothian with Rory McIlory defending his title.
The four- time Major winner produced a brilliant birdie-birdie finish on a thrilling final day last year to edge out home favourite Robert MacIntyre by one stroke. McIlroy topped a stellar field, which included eight of the top ten players in the world, to win the Genesis Scottish Open for the first time in his storied career.
McIlroy said: “It was special to win the Genesis Scottish Open for the first time last season. Winning a national open is always notable, and to do it in the home of golf, with such great support from the Scottish fans, made it a memorable week.”
The Genesis Scottish Open benefits from the continued commitment of the Scottish Government, managed by VisitScotland, and retains its place in golf’s global calendar the week ahead of The Open as part of these agreements through to 2025.
Midlothian View got a sneak preview of the course and the venue ahead of the event. Midlothian View editor Phil Bowen said:
“The course is looking in great condition. It was good to see the preparations for the Scottish Open and the fan zone looks like an interesting place to be.
“The sixth hole is billed as ‘The Stadium’ hole but it remains to be seen what the discerning Scottish golf spectator makes of it.
“The Scottish Open is always a great event for the spectator. The crowds are not as big as the Open which makes it a much more accessible event and enables fans to follow their favourite players around the course.
Joining McIlroy are Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose and Justin Thomas. Robert MacIntyre will also tee it up fresh from his first PGA Tour win at the Canadian Open last month and will be hoping to go one better than last year and win his home Open.
There are a range of ticket options for the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open with general admission starting at £40, 13 to 17 year olds from £15 and free admission for 12 and under. Buy your tickets HERE.
