This week marks Scotland’s first ever Bus Week, running until Sunday 29th May 2022. Bus Week is a new initiative from #LoveMyBus, a Transform Scotland programme, supported by Paths for All, the Confederation of Passenger Transport and a range of operators across the country.

The event is intended to promote the benefits of bus travel, as well as providing an opportunity to thank bus industry staff for their efforts to keep essential services running through the pandemic.

Local MSP Christine Grahame has added her support to the initiative alongside The Scottish Government.

Ms Grahame, MSP for Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, said:

“I’m pleased to support this new campaign as an opportunity to celebrate bus travel and all it can offer with regards to improving health, reducing emissions and improving access to opportunities.

“Bus services are still recovering from the impact of the pandemic, and recruitment difficulties exacerbated by Brexit, however it’s important that services are well used if we want to keep them running. We now have more people than ever with access to free bus travel thanks to the move to make bus travel free to those 21 and under, alongside existing concessions.

“At a time when the industry is still recovering I think it’s important to recognise the many benefits of bus travel and it’s place in our future as we move away from less sustainable forms of transport.”
