Clovenfords By Gala, Scottish Borders
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
Two Borders pubs where investment of a combined half a million pounds is planned are seeking new mine hosts.
The Clovenfords hotel and bar, near Galashiels, and the Neidpath Inn in Peebles are both popular and profitable watering holes.
Significant investment is planned at both venues and now new tenancy agreements are being advertised ahead of the work.
A refurbishment investment of around £260,000 is earmarked to upgrade the interior of The Clovenfords, to restore it to its “rightful position of a characterful village pub with letting rooms”.
The Star Pubs group say The Clovenfords “offers a great opportunity for someone who wants to take on a well-backed, refurbished pub with plenty of potential”.
A spokesperson said: “The Clovenfords sits in the heart of Clovenfords village, just three miles from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. The pub is the only venue in the village, making it the natural meeting place for locals while attracting visitors from surrounding towns.
“Set in a picturesque area with steady year-round trade, the location combines an affluent residential base with regular tourists drawn to walking, cycling and exploring the Borders countryside.
“The refurbishment will transform the pub’s interior, redecorating both bar areas, upgrading toilets and refitting the conservatory with a new insulated roof system to create a comfortable all-year-round dining space.
“The back bar will be refreshed, fixed seating reupholstered, and new lighting and furniture will complete the scheme.”
The Clovenfords in Vine Street is available on a Star Pubs investment tenancy agreement.
A major refurbishment project of around £250,000 is also planned at the Neidpath Inn.
The pub is temporarily closed pending the planned work.
Both pub tenancies are available from the Star Pubs group.
