GoFibre - Scottish Borders network rollout

Gofibre Scottish Borders Network Rollout

Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly

Families, businesses and schools across the Borders are set to benefit from a full fibre roll-out, it has been announced.

Berwickshire‑born provider GoFibre will bring lightning‑fast connectivity to another 2,000 homes and businesses in Oxton, Coldingham, St Abbs, Jedburgh and Lauder, as part of the UK and Scottish Governments’ Project Gigabit programme.

This forms part of a wider build connecting around 20,000 premises across the Borders and East Lothian, helping remote workers, households and local enterprises benefit from reliable, future‑proof speeds.

Founded in Duns in 2017, GoFibre’s network already serves towns, including Galashiels, Kelso, Melrose, Selkirk, Hawick, Jedburgh and Duns.

Once live, premises in the latest build areas will be able to access speeds of up to 1 Gbps, enabling smoother remote working, video calls without freezing, rapid downloads, and seamless streaming on multiple devices.

Neil Conaghan, CEO of GoFibre, said: “We’re a Borders-born company, so every new community we connect in this region feels personal. This latest expansion means more families, businesses and schools can access the kind of speeds that make modern life easier and open new opportunities for work, learning and play.”

Alongside its infrastructure roll-out, GoFibre invests directly in the well-being of the communities it serves through its GoFurther Fund.

The latest round of funding, offering grants of up to £3,000 to grassroots charities and community organisations, closed recently in the Borders.

Mr Conaghan added: “Connecting people is at the heart of everything we do. Whether that’s through the fibre in the ground or the funding that helps community projects flourish.

“The GoFurther Fund is about giving back and making sure our network build is matched by investment in the people and ideas that make the Borders such a special place to live and work.”

Since launching in 2023, the GoFurther Fund has supported exceptional local initiatives, including Escape Youth Services in Hawick, which secured funding for an additional youth worker to run its Friday drop-in clinic.

Other projects have helped reduce social isolation, improve mental health, expand creative opportunities and strengthen local facilities.
