Whitburn’s successful Community Development Trust will take on management of the town’s community centre next month.
The CDT, fully operational since 2019, will run the building under a recharge lease as part of the changes to centres which come into being in April.
David MacDonald the Trust manager said the team were “delighted” at the move and called for community support to make the takeover a success.
The building has recently reopened after refurbishment. The building offers sports facilities and community meeting rooms.
It has a large sports hall, a soft play area squash court, two fitness rooms with a changing room and showers and five meeting rooms which can also be hired for social functions.
The building sits in its own extensive grounds in Manse Drive.
Mr MacDonald told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: “We are delighted to share that from 1st April we will be undertaking the operation of Whitburn Community Centre through a lease agreement with West Lothian Council under a recharge model.
“To ensure we can make this sustainable we need to generate income for the building to cover the running costs.
“We have also been working in collaboration with the current Management Committee, who have kindly donated the current assets to allow us to keep these available for the community and to allow us a better chance of being successful. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all the hard work they have undertaken for the community.”
Mr Macdonald added: “We are now open to enquiries regarding bookings for the centre. We welcome all types of enquiries and encourage groups, organisations, and individuals to make use of the centre.
“To make this venture sustainable, it is important that the community helps us bring the building to life by utilising all of the available spaces.”

The opening times from May will be 08:30 to 21:00 Monday to Friday and 08:30 to 15:30 on the weekends.
Mr Macdonald said: “We look forward to continuing to work with the community and making the centre a great success.”
The Trust has been working in the town since 2009. It is a charity run by volunteers that aims to relieve poverty, promote well-being and build a healthy, prosperous and sustainable future for Whitburn and its community.
The charity’s Community Support Hub provides services and support to tackle and alleviate poverty in the community. It has already developed facilities such as community food store and advice service as well as a thriving community garden, also on Manse Drive.
