Despite the collective success and plaudits for Hearts this season, it has been a personally challenging first season for Sabah Kerjota as he adapts to Scottish football.

Inconsistent minutes, frequent injury problems and strong competition for places have meant he has not featured as much as he would have hoped.

But in Sunday’s Edinburgh Derby, he delivered a timely reminder of his quality. Off the bench Kerjota played a decisive role in Hearts comeback over nine-man Hibs assisting Blair Spittal’s winner to secure all three points.

Sabah Kerjota reflected on his standout moment in a maroon shirt so far.

“I am so happy about the game today, the way we won and how I contributed.”

“It is always unavailable to play and win these matches, but when you score at the end to win it, it is always more enjoyable.”

‘Today it was easier for me because they were two men down and tired. We needed to dribble and put the ball in, because we have two strikers that can score from anywhere.’

Kerjota is well aware of the pleather of options Hearts have in wide areas, accepting patience is required in such a talented squad.

“We have so many players who play in the same position. We have like eight or nine wingers. So its normal that sometimes you play, sometimes you are on the bench or sometimes you miss out. You have to have some patience – football is like this.”

His role on Sunday was from the bench and he revealed the message Derek McInnes gave him before coming on.

“Go one-on-one and put the ball in – that’s the way we play. He brought me and Kyziridis on to dribble and cross it in.”

With every matchday that passes Hearts are etching closer to the title.

“We believe, we have four more games to do what we have done all this year.”

“There are so many matches now that we have gone down in the first half and come back, it shows we are a good team. We believe in us.”

The Albanian was one of several obscure summer signing for Hearts, arriving from Italian Serie C side Sambendettese – an adjustment which has taken time.

“To compare it to Italy it is so much more physical. In Italy its tactical and technical.”

Hearts’ home form has been stellar all season and as they return back to Tynecastle next Monday to host Rangers, the home supports role is not lost on him.

“Every game the fans push us and to play at Tynecastle is amazing, it is something new every game.”
