This View has been written by Miles Briggs, Conservative and Unionist Party candidate for the East Lothian Coast and Lammermuirs constituency and a Scottish Parliament elections and the Edinburgh and Lothians East region.

People say that a week is a long time in politics, however the next two weeks before Scots goes to the polls, will go by very quickly. I have had hundreds of conversations with people on their doorsteps and the number one question is “how do we get this SNP government out”. We are approaching two decades of SNP government in Scotland and there is no two ways about it, Scotland has been let down. Countless millions of tax payers pounds, wasted on one fiasco after another, has left a majority of voters desperate to get the SNP out.

The last four SNP Government have been so preoccupied with independence that they have failed to govern. The idea that SNP has Scotland’s best interests at heart is an illusion, what the SNP have at their heart is breaking up the United Kingdom at all costs. The Scottish Conservatives have approached this election on strong foundations as the party in Scotland who have been consistently and unequivocally opposed to another independence referendum. A threat which is real, if pro-union supporter are not galvanised against pro-independence parties.

People who I speak to want politicians who can get things done and are prepared to get on with the day job. That is what the Scottish Conservatives are offering in Scotland. We are standing on a manifesto of common sense policies which will improve the day to day life of hard working Scots and putting the endless independence debate to bed. We are asking voters to lend us their vote in two weeks’ time, to prevent an SNP majority and have the opportunity for a pro-union Scottish Government who will govern Scotland with their full focus and energy.

Above all this election is about electing local representatives who will work hard for our communities and stand up for Edinburgh and the Lothians in the next Parliament. I hope over the last 5 years my colleague Sue Webber and I have demonstrated we are not just politicians who turn up at election time but politicians who work for you all year round. From my campaign to deliver a new Eye Hospital to the upgrade of the Sheriffhall roundabout I’ll never stop fighting for a better deal for our area. That is why I’m asking for you to help re-elect the team that gets things done and lend the Scottish Conservatives your peach party vote.

Depending on what Lothian constituency you live in, voters have a good idea of which party to vote for to keep the SNP out. By lending the Scottish Conservatives your vote on the Peach ballot paper, you are maximising the number of pro-union parties in Lothian. SNP and the Scottish Greens have always been pro-independence and Nigel Farage’s reform party have made it very clear that they will not stand in their way.

It was regional seats won by the Scottish Conservatives in 2016 and then again in 2021, which prevented and SNP majority and we can do it again on May 7th by voting Scottish Conservative on the peach ballot paper.
