Owen Thompson, MP for Midlothian, and Christine Grahame, MSP for Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, are joining forces to help elderly constituents to stay warm, safe and well informed this winter. The Midlothian duo are holding a winter awareness meeting from 10am on Saturday 5 November at Penicuik Upper Town Hall and invite older constituents to attend. Refreshments will be provided.
Mr Thompson and Ms Grahame will be joined by support organisations – including Age Scotland, Silver Line Scotland, Midlothian Council, Police Scotland, Trading Standards, Home Energy Scotland and Electrical Safety First – to advise attendees on how best to deal with the challenges that winter presents, through presentations and activities.
Along with providing informational materials from participating organisations, Mr Thompson will be launching a resource guide for Midlothian’s elderly, which will first be available in print from his Dalkeith office and via download from his website.
Owen Thompson MP said:
“I am very pleased to be working with Christine on this event and to welcome the many organisations who have agreed to take part either in person or by providing materials. I invite all our elder constituents to join us on 5th November for valuable information on how best to deal with winter in Midlothian – over coffee and cake of course!”
Christine Grahame MSP said:
“Winter is a trying time for many elderly people with many staying indoors more often when we have shorter daylight. This means fuel bills can become a worry and choices may be made between heating and eating. It can also lead to isolation and increased loneliness. I think it is therefore important that as elected representatives we provide as much help as we can to our valued pensioners in the coming months.”
