Colin Beattie MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh today welcomed the news that the Scottish Government is to invest £ 2.5 million in specialist nursing and care.
The first allocation of the new funding package, £700,000, will go towards nursing care and support for those with motor-neurone disease. As a result of this funding the number of specialist MND nurses in Scotland will double from seven to fourteen to provide greater support to people with the condition.
Commenting Mr. Beattie said, ‘I strongly welcome the news of this funding. It will ensure that the highest standards of care will be maintained for anyone in need.
‘The news that the initial £700,000 of this will be directed towards motor-neurone disease will hopefully provide a real benefit to those affected by this hideous disease.
‘MND is an incurable disease that can end the life of some suffers within three years of diagnoses. The Scottish Government is determined to make a difference to people with motor-neurone disease, and it is my hope that this announcement will make a real change to the lives of MND suffers in Midlothian.’
