Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year to Everyone

December is quickly coming to an end, which means that the holiday season is upon us. I know many of us will be looking forward to family, food, and of course, opening presents under the Christmas tree. While one of my favourite Christmas pastimes is to sit by the fire and eat chocolate shortbread, I also like to take the time to reflect upon the events of the past year.

There is no doubt that 2014 was a momentous year for all of Scotland. This was the year of the historic independence referendum, the commemoration of the World War I centenary, the election of the first female First Minister, and the introduction of Scotland’s first gender-balanced Cabinet. I am confident that Scotland is setting examples across the globe.

Former First Minister Alex Salmond has also announced his candidacy for the SNP Westminster nomination in the Gordon constituency. Alex has done a wonderful job as First Minister for many years and has been a committed MSP. If elected, I am certain he will do a great job of representing the interests of his constituents and of Scotland at Westminster. I wish him the best of luck in his campaign.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that it has been a pleasure and privilege to serve you all in Midlothian North and Musselburgh this past year. It is such an honour to serve such a lively and engaging constituency, and I look forward to doing so through next year. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas filled with festive cheer and I wish you all a happy and prosperous 2015.
