Everyone invited to launch of sport hub

Monday March 2nd 2015

Pupils, parents and the wider community are all invited to a special free event to mark the launch of the Lasswade Community Sport Hub (LCSH).

The evening, on Thursday 5 March from 18:30 to 20:30, will be a fantastic opportunity to find out more about the LCSH as well as club sports available for people in Bonnyrigg and Lasswade.

Councillor Derek Rosie, the cabinet member for sport and leisure, said: “It’s going to be a fun and informative evening.

“You’ll get the chance to try taster sessions in a wide range of sports and activities from trampolining to American football, Taekwondo and even yoga.

“Our Active Schools team will be out in force along with the Lasswade Parent Council, our sport and leisure staff and scores of partnership clubs.

Why not enjoy a tea or coffee provided by the parent council before having a browse in a host of stalls?

Our Young Ambassadors for Sport will be on hand along with Young Hub leaders.

Cllr Rosie said: “We want to encourage as many people to come along and get active. Even if you don’t fancy gymnastics or trying your hand at a sport like hockey, you can also find out about volunteering opportunities.”

The Lasswade Community Sports Hub will be the third one set up in Midlothian as part of the Commonwealth Games legacy to encourage more people to take part in sport.

Its launch comes just days before the start of Scotland’s first Legacy Week, which starts on Monday 9 March. Legacy Week is an opportunity for people, communities and organisations across Scotland to highlight the legacy of the Commonwealth Games, shining a spotlight on how programmes, projects and investment are improving the lives of people across Scotland and in Glasgow.

Legacy Week is supported by the Scottish Government and partners across Scotland, including Midlothian Council, delivering the legacy of the Games.

Cllr Rosie said: “I know that in Midlothian, we’ve got lots of events organised for the week, including sessions with professional rugby players.

“It will be great fun so keep an eye on our Active Midlothian website for all the latest information on what’s happening during Legacy Week and, of course, don’t miss the chance to come along to the launch of the Lasswade Community Sport Hub.”
