Lasswade lose

Match Report Richard Payne

Illness injuries and other absences had Lasswade digging even deeper into its reserves as it travelled for its first ever fixture against this Glasgow side with the latest debutant, Niall Morris, having just qualified for senior rugby.

The visitors raced to an early lead with two converted tries and the Hills supporters began to expect a bad afternoon but their team recovered with two tries to make it 10-14 by the break.

Then in a crazy period early in the second half the Lasswade defence lost all structure and leaked three soft tries at two minute intervals and at 34-14 the game was lost.

The last quarter was Lasswade’s and they narrowed the gap when their man of the match Dougie Hearn grounded his second try and Billingham brought up the final score with a try on the stroke of full time to secure a try bonus point but this was little consolation.

Results elsewhere mean Lasswade slip only to sixth though they have played seven games to everyone else’s six or five. They need to discover some winning form when fourth placed Cartha Queen’s Park are their next challengers at Hawthornden on 24 October with a 2pm kickoff.
