Midlothian Active Schools

Colin Beattie, MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh, has welcomed new figures showing that 100% of school children in Midlothian are now receiving the recommended amount of exercise at school.

In 2012 eighty per cent of Midlothian primary schools received at least two hours of PE a week and now that figure stands at 100% here in Midlothian and 99% across Scotland.

Welcoming this Colin Beattie, Midlothian North and Musselburgh MSP, said:

“Physical education is the best possible way to promote and ensure a level of fitness for young people in Scotland. And it gives our athletes of the future a chance to excel at an early age – so these figures are a credit to our schools and teachers here in Midlothian.

The SNP Scottish Government made the commitment to ensure every primary school child gets two hours a week of physical education and secondary school pupils get two periods a week. Through the efforts of the teachers and schools in Midlothian this target has been met.

I welcome the success of Midlothian in making this goal a reality.”
