Penicuik could have opened the scoring in the 1st minute when a cross from the right wing fell to McCallum at the back post, but his strike was blocked by keeper Murphy. Fauldhouse quickly recovered from the initial shock, and before Penicuik new it they were two goals down.

The first came in the 5th minute when Ross rose above the Penicuik defence to head home. Two minutes later and it was Penicuik who looked shell shocked when Young lost possession just outside his penalty box, and Donnelly passed the ball to Stewart who coolly slotted the ball past Bejaoui.

Then Penicuik were under pressure and only a goal line clearance prevented the visitors going further ahead. At the other end, Somerville had a great chance, but his effort went high over the bar.

In the 25th minute, Fauldhouse had Penicuik on the back foot, Donnelly set up Stewart but his shot also flew high over the bar. Two minutes later, Penicuik’s defence was all at sea with a slick one touch passing move that was finished off with a strike by Wilkins. Bejaoui was beaten but fortunately for Penicuik, the ball hit the post and was cleared.

In the 35th minute, another excellent attack by Fauldhouse, again up the right wing, culminated with a strike by Ross that went narrowly wide of the target. Penicuik finally created a chance two minutes later when McCallum sent over a cross that Somerville was about to slam home, but a superb interception Fallon saved the day.

Play switched immediately to the other end, again up the right wing and Penicuik had keeper Bejaoui to thank as he pulled off a superb instinctive save to deflect the ball away for a corner.

In the 41st minute, Penicuik’s defence was again opened up down the right and again Bejaoui came to the rescue blocking a shot with his boot.

Penicuik came out for the second half with determination and in the 52nd minute got the early goal to get back into the game when Somerville volleyed home a pinpoint Lister cross.

Three minutes later, keeper Murphy came to the visitor’s rescue when he turned away a deflected strike. In the 55th minute a great run by Sommerville saw him get round the back of the Fauldhouse defence, but his cross was tipped away by keeper Murphy.

Seven minutes later, a Penicuik corner was partially cleared by Ross. The ball was knocked back to the back post where White headed the ball across goal. It was again headed out to the edge of the box, but Barr’s first time volley flew high over the bar.

Penicuik continued to press but Fauldhouse defended well. Then in the 76th minute, Deans got past two Penicuik defenders, cut the ball back to substitute Miller who saw his shot brilliantly saved by Bejaoui. However, home side refused to give up and were rewarded in the 84th minute when a excellent Lister strike from the edge of the penalty box curled over keeper Murphy into the top corner of the net.

A minute later, with Penicuik piling on the pressure for the winner, Ross came close with a shot that went narrowly past the post. Then in their next attack, McCallum beat the offside trap, but great defensive play saw both keeper Murphy and centre back Ross defy the striker.
