Sauchie 1 Penicuik 3

Match Report by Jim Dick

Sauchie 1 Penicuik 3

Penicuik travelled to Beechwood Park for this East Super League match looking to continue their fine vein of form and consolidate their top of the league position.

However it was Sauchie who created the first chance of the game when Shanks got past Ross, and drove into the box, but his shot was comfortably saved by Bejaoui.

In the 14th minute, a second chance fell to the home side when a McCulloch cross into the box was headed wide of the target by Morgan. Two minutes later, following a free kick to Sauchie, Kelly turned quickly in the box, but his weak shot was easily gathered by Bejaoui.

At the other end, a great diagonal pass by Ross picked out Somerville on the corner of the penalty box. He looked up and curled in a shot that hit the bar and away for a goal kick.

The home side took the lead in the 28th minute when a Shanks free kick was deflected by the Penicuik defensive wall past Bejaoui.

Sauchie were the more direct side when going forward and created two chances minutes later when Millar should have scored but Bejaoui blocked his effort. Then Kelly shot wide.

Penicuik gradually worked themselves back into the game and in the 40th minute equalised with a fine strike by Somerville.

Penicuik took the lead in the 58th minute when McCallum slotted home from the penalty spot.

Two minutes later, the game was put to bed when McCallum this time became provider, cutting the ball across the six yard box for Somerville to knock the ball home for his second of the game and Penicuik’s third.

Immediately afterwards, keeper Harkness watched on anxiously as a McCallum strike from the left side of the box flashed narrowly past the upright.

In the 73rd minute, a free kick to Sauchie saw Bejaoui punch clear but the ball was immediately returned to the danger area where Duffin tried an overhead kick, but the ball was booted clear to safety by White.

Immediately afterwards, Somerville dispossessed Shanks but instead of cutting the ball back, went for goal and Harkness blocked his effort easily for a corner. Then Morgan received a straight red card, presumably for comments made to referee Stewart
