Nine new cases of Covid were confirmed by a test in the first week of September in Midlothian.

The county has the second highest percentage of positive tests confirmed since March, according to Public Health Scotland.

Only Dundee City Council’s local authority area has a higher rate.

In total, 560 positive tests have been confirmed in the county since March – almost double the number of positive tests in neighbouring East Lothian.

Just over 12,600 tests have been carried out on Midlothian residents, with 4.8 per cent coming back positive.

In total, 87 deaths have been recorded of people who died within 28 days of first testing positive for Covid-19.

In East Lothian, 299 positive tests were confirmed out of around 11,500, giving a percentage of 2.6 percent.

The data, which is being published by Public Health Scotland, takes the positive test rates to September 7.

In Edinburgh, there had been 1,983 positive tests confirmed up to Monday, with 51,804 negative tests giving a percentage of 3.7 per cent of cases coming back as positive – 40 of them were recorded in the first week of September.

The latest figures from Public Health Scotland show the city of Dundee has a 5.5 per cent positive test rate, with 1,114 positive tests recorded up to Monday compared to 19,048 negative tests.
