P7s from Lasswade Primary, Euan Maguire, Connor McGrath, Grace Aaron and Rosie Brown, led the ‘charge’ during the Inter-School Walk, part of Walk to School Week.

The pupils took to the streets and headed to Bonnyrigg Primary for the campaign, which is organised by Living Streets and Midlothian Council. Walk to School Week is to get children, parents and teachers out of cars and walking.

The young people wore their favourite shoes for “Happy Shoesday”.

The pupils agreed getting out in the fresh air and walking whenever possible was a great way to keep healthy.

The council supported Walk to School Week by offering schools wall charts, stickers and posters to promote the event. Some schools held special assemblies to highlight the health benefits of walking to their pupils.

During these events school staff accompanied pupils as they walked to neighbouring schools, using it as a great chance to talk about how many steps taken, calories expended and how best to eat healthily.
