Lasswade Athletic Club’s athlete Sarah Tait has taken a day off from her gruelling training schedule to graduate from the University of Stirling.

The 22-year-old sports scholar, from Fairmilehead, received her BA (Hons) Sports Studies from Stirling – Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence.

However, she won’t have long to dwell on her academic success – as she’s jetting off to Espoo, Finland, in the coming days to compete in the 3,000m steeplechase for Team GB at the European Under 23 Championships.

It caps a successful season for Sarah, who won this year’s British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and Scottish Student Sport (SSS) outdoor events. During her time at Stirling, she also triumphed in the 2020 and 2022 SSS outdoors events.

In August, Sarah will jet off to the USA, after signing as an athlete with the University of West Virginia. She said: “I’ve loved my time at the University of Stirling and I’m sad my journey here is coming to an end, but so chuffed to be graduating. The support I’ve had has been second to none – the facilities are incredible, the academic flexibility has been important and being surrounded by fellow sports scholars has been really inspiring.

“I’m over the moon to be selected again for Team GB and really looking forward to competing. It’s been a lot of hard work – balancing training, dissertation and work – but I’m so proud of myself for everything I’ve achieved.”
