Bonnyrigg Rose Academy Sponsored Walk

Saturday January 17th 2015

The players from the Bonnyrigg Rose Football Academy did a sponsored walk Saturday 17th January. Leaving the Bonnyrigg Rose ground, New Dundas Park, the boys and girls from the Bonnyrigg Rose 2007 team walked along the old railway line to Rosewell and back, a distance of 5 miles.

The 2007s are currently on their winter break so they used the time away from training and matches to do the sponsored walk in order to raise funds for the Academy. Despite the cold and ice at the beginning everyone was in good spirits as players, coaches and parents walked along. At the half way point at Rosewell, parents were on hand to give the boys and girls a drink and a snack. As they walked back legs did become tired and despite it being downhill the pace dropped, however, everyone made it back to New Dundas Park.

There was an added bonus upon their return. As the Bonnyrigg Rose Junior match had been postponed that morning due to the weather, Charlie Kirkwood the Bonnyrigg Rose Chairman and the match day team laid on the sandwiches and pies that had been prepared for the match. It also meant the 2007s could watch the Junior Team (the ‘Big Team’) do some training. There is a really great Community feel at Bonnyrigg Rose.
