Owen Thompson Debate

SNP Westminster MPs have condemned Theresa May for failing to confirm if she would like the UK to stay within the European Single Market.

Speaking in Prime Minister’s Questions today, Angus Robertson MP asked if the Prime Minister was in favour of remaining part of the European Single Market, only for her to refuse twice to answer the question.

During an urgent statement on the G20 Summit Owen Thompson, SNP MP for Midlothian, then asked the Prime Minster when the House of Commons would be presented with detail of what Brexit actually means ‘beyond the sound bites’.

Commenting, Owen Thompson MP said:

“Theresa May continues to refuse to answer very simple but crucial questions on UK membership of the European Single Market – the biggest trading bloc in the world which is so important to UK businesses and the economy.

“There is very real concern and worry about the impact of leaving the European Union, especially in Scotland and my own Constituency of Midlothian where voters overwhelmingly voted to stay. The UK government has had all summer to come up with a plan and a strategy to present to MPs. So far we have just had waffle.”
