The good news is that the steps are finally open, once again. Midlothian Council advise that the repair is a temporary solution, to permit public access and use of the park, and will be followed up by more permanent works in early Spring.
The Cemetery Road access to Ironmills Park has now been closed for over 18 months, causing great inconvenience to the regular users of the Park. At the end of May 2014 Midlothian Council received the specialist report from Ironside Farrar, which suggested three alternatives to resolve the problems at the steps and MC have adopted the most reasonable option.
We have agreed with Dalkeith & District Community Council to invite council officers to a joint public meeting to explain their solution and to discuss the potential for community involvement in maintenance of the bridge and steps.
