Local MSP Christine Grahame and Penicuik SNP Councillor Debbi McCall have called on Midlothian Council to take action on Leadburn Junction following comments by David Mundell MP.

The conservative MP stated recently that he and his conservative colleagues on both Midlothian and Borders Councils would give full backing to the campaign to improve the notorious junction.

The junction although it has had improvements over the years remains a concern especially for drivers unfamiliar with it.

Commenting Ms Grahame said:

“The Leadburn Junction has been a source of safety concern for local residents for many years. I’d welcome any action to improve it, but ultimately this falls at the feet of Midlothian Council.

“Mr Mundell’s support is welcome, but as his Tory colleagues share the balance of power in Midlothian Council I, and indeed local residents, will want to see these words backed up by real action to improve the junction.”

Councillor Debbi McCall added:

“The Labour/Tory coalition should put their money where their mouth is, I therefore look forward to funding being put aside by them for this in their forthcoming budget.”

As the Leadburn Junction falls just within the county of Midlothian then it is their responsibility. However, as Midlothian Council have a shortfall in their budget in the next financial year of nearly £6.8million, action on this dangerous junction is unlikely unless additional money can be found.
