Bonnyrigg resident, Claire Miller, has been presented with a British Empire Medal (BEM) in a special ceremony at Rosslyn Chapel.

The award, presented by Midlothian’s Lord-Lieutenant, Lt Col Richard Callander, was given for services in Scotland on the Demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Claire, who is Senior Public Safety Officer for City of Edinburgh Council, was instrumental in ensuring the safety of all who came to pay their respects in person, working closely with Police Scotland to manage the streets of the city throughout the period known as ‘Operation Unicorn’.

Richard Callander, Lord-Lieutenant, said: ’Claire undertook this very important role with huge commitment and passion, ensuring a suitable balance of safety, professionalism and reverence at a time when the whole world was watching. This honour is very well deserved and it was my privilege to present it at a memorable ceremony, attended by Claire’s family, friends and colleagues.’

Claire Miller’s award was included in the King’s Birthday Honours List in 2023.
