New plans for a warehouse and business units on a site previously earmarked for a film studio are expected to be lodged with Midlothian Council.
Buccleuch Property, which has the land south of Dalkeith which has been dubbed Salter’s Park, will launch a public consultation on its proposals next month.
A Pre Application Notice lodged with the council for the 74-acre site, to the east of Salter’s Road, reveals developers have already identified an unnamed prospective tenant for part of the site and are seeking full planning permission for “a logistics warehouse and ancillary offices with van storage and car parking and associated access, infrastructure and landscaping proposals”.
They are also intending to apply for planning permission in principle for the remains of the site to be used for business, industrial and storage units.
At the start of 2019 a pre-application consultation was undertaken for a film and TV studio. It will disappoint many who saw a film studio as a real economic boost for Dalkeith, and the wider Midlothian area, with the prospect of well paid local jobs as well as visiting film companies spending money locally.
The latest plans will be revealed in more detail when they go out for public consultation with the first of two virtual exhibitions on July 15 and a dedicated website www.salterspark.com
Outlining plans to consult under Covid-restricted conditions, the site owners said its web page would outline the proposed consultation process and timeline and include an interactive form to encourage online consultation and feedback on the information provided.
A dedicated project telephone number 0131 202 3259 will operate during normal office hours and will allow interested parties to leave messages and enquiries which will be directed to and responded to by the relevant member of the consultant team.
The virtual town hall events will be held on July 15 and August 12 between 3pm and 7pm, with a transcript of the events to be made available via the website afterwards.
