Planning decisions made

Midlothian Council’s Planning Committee met this afternoon.

The proposed Aldi store at the current Mayshade Garden Centre, permission was approved by 9 votes to 8.

The Cala Homes development proposed for the Broomieknowe practice ground, subject to conditions relating to access, was also approved.

Both decisions are likely to disappoint a high proportion of local residents and as well as members of the Midlothian Landscape and Communities Protection Group (MLCP) who had campaigned against both developments.

Commenting to Midlothian View on the decision, George Barnes from the MLCP said “Once again the power of the developer rules. The local councillors, who are supposed to represent us, have no interest in protecting our quality of life. Bonnyrigg will no longer have boundaries but will have major traffic issues. Money talks !!!”
