Sporting Memories, a charity which operates free community-based clubs across Great Britain that welcome older people who like to make friends and connections in their local area or have a passion for sport, are opening a new club in Gorebridge.

The club uses the power of remembering and talking about sport alongside physical activity to support older people aged 50+ to live better lives, including those living with dementia, depression, or living in isolation and lonely circumstances.

It’s a great opportunity for local people from all backgrounds to not only share their stories but to also partake in a weekly session that ignite old memories through photographs and quizzes as well as getting active again with a range of fun games and inclusive exercises. And if that isn’t enough, there’s also the opportunity to have a cup of tea or coffee (normally with some biscuits included as well) at half-time.

The club in Gorebridge is looking for both members to come along and enjoy the weekly sessions as well as local people who have the time and interest to volunteer to help run or support the clubs. The sessions are ideal for members of the local community who have a spare couple of hours every week to pop along – with the session open to all!

Without volunteers, Sporting Memories clubs across Great Britain wouldn’t be able to run and all volunteers are provided with training and support to help them deliver engaging sessions for members – even for those who aren’t interested in sport!

The Gorebridge club launches on Tuesday 17 January with a weekly session running from between 10.30am to 12noon at Gorebridge Leisure Centre, Hunterfield Road, Gorebridge, EH23 4TX

For more information on how to join the new Gorebridge club as a member or volunteer, please email Donna Mackey via donna.mackey@sportingmemories.uk or call 07340 560 306.
