Riders of the storm performing in the park.

A warm and sunny day brought thousands of people into the centre of Loanhead on Saturday to witness the crowning of Loanhead’s 111th School Queen, Amy McWilliams, and the subsequent large procession through the town. A large and varied programme of family entertainment then followed in the town’s Memorial Park.
This year’s star attraction were the equestrian stunt team, Riders of the Storm, proving a particular hit with the large crowds.
Loanhead Children’s Day is Midlothian’s oldest local festival and one of Scotland’s largest traditional children’s gala days. The overwhelming view in Loanhead is that the 2023 version was amongst the best in the long history of the event.
