Representatives of Penicuik Athletic Youth Football Club were presented with two parliamentary motions in Holyrood last week by their MSP Christine Grahame in recognition of the Club’s donations of football equipment to children in Malawi.

The donations of strips, bibs and balls were made to youth football academies in Malawi via Strips4Malawi, which aims to provide new and good condition used youth football team strips to partner youth sports academies in a bid to encourage participation in sport among some of the most deprived young people in Malawi.

PAYFC Chair James Robertson and Vice Chair Fraser Bertram visited the Scottish Parliament to receive framed copies of the two motions lodged by local MSP Christine Grahame, and to discuss their charitable work and the future of the Club.

Commenting, Christine Grahame MSP said:

“I have been following the work of PAYFC to donate their old strips to under-privileged children in Malawi and felt it appropriate to commend their efforts in the form of Parliamentary motions.

“These donations make an invaluable difference to some of the world’s most disadvantaged young people, offering them an opportunity to play football with a full strip. This engenders a sense of pride and confidence playing for their respective teams and encourages them to continue to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of playing sport.

“I was delighted to invite James and Fraser in to Parliament to be presented with my motions in recognition of their Club’s efforts. Their actions reflects the generosity and kindness of all the Club’s members.

“We also had a grand chat about facilities and with 500 young people engaged in football, finding a permanent home for them is key. I hope I can help them to take this forward.”

Commenting, PAYFC Chair James Robertson said:

“Thanks to Christine for her kind invitation and for recognising our football club for their efforts.

Fraser and I enjoyed our chat with Christine as well as appreciate her offer of help regarding training facilities and a club base.”

The motions can be viewed online here, Motion S6M-07582 and Motion S6M-10144
